The Unit provides a wide range of technical, managerial and analytical services to our customers throughout the world. Integrated Transport Division (ITD) maintains a diverse range of skills related to the complete life cycle of transport solutions.
We are currently looking for a Rail Transport Modeller to lead on the delivery of Mott MacDonald's current rail planning portfolio of work and build on the continuing success and growth of our national and international business. Job Description The Rail Transport Modeller will be working in the rail planning team and will become involved in a range of rail projects covering scheme appraisal, demand and revenue modelling and forecasting, policy analysis and strategy development.
Responsibilities of the role will include the following: - Supporting the rail team's projects, contributing expert modelling skills and enhancing services to the client. - Support business development and Mott MacDonald profile developments with all private and public sector clients. - Project dependent, modelling rail transport demand trends and determining regional characteristics (both exogenous and endogenous) - Revenue and benefit forecasting for a range of schemes from minor to strategic (including journey time savings, accident and congestion improvements) - Involved in planning and demand forecasting socio/demographic-economic and business economics or reopening rail lines and/or stations. - Preparation of Business Cases (both for the private sector and the public sector) Candidate Specification Applicants must have excellent commercial and financial management awareness, be committed to providing high quality solutions and advice to clients and have first class report writing, project management, supervisory, communication and technical ability.
Characteristics that we would expect in successful applicants: - A degree in a numerate discipline, preferably economics related. Further academia, MA/MSc or PhD will be beneficial but not essential. - Good understanding of the UK rail industry - Experience in rail forecasting and modelling with a consultancy or within the UK rail industry likely to have been gained over 4-5+ years - Experience in calculating and forecasting demand and business cases specific to UK railways. - The candidate needs to have practical experience of PDFH, RIFF and WebTAG/NATA or equivalent and rail industry datasets (LENNON) - Possess in-depth knowledge of the UK rail sector services, consumer reactions to service enhancements and fare changes, and the techniques used to evaluate and advise on rail service options - Good communication and analytical skills plus proven managerial experience - A positive ‘can-do' attitude and a flexible and responsive approach to problem solving are also desirable - Enjoy working in a team environment
