AECOMRegional Director - Transport Planning - St AlbansThe Regional Director - Transport Planning role involves joining a management team to contribute to the supervision of over 50 professional consultant transport planners and modellers. There is a strong team of Associate Directors providing project team management and line management in specific work areas, covering: rail planning; highway and multi-modal modelling; urban space modelling including traffic micro-simulation and pedestrian studies; sustainable transport planning and practice; and analysis, appraisal of transport projects.
The team covers a wide range of numerate disciplines, including geographers, mathematicians, software specialists, and engineers, and is undergoing steady organic growth, with a focus on clients such as Transport for London, Department for Transport, Olympic Development Agency, Highways Agency and local authorities in London, south and east of England with a heavy emphasis on transport modelling, although non-analytical commissions are increasingly becoming part of the team's extensive portfolio.
The Transport Planning team operates within a broad engineering consultancy, interacting with colleagues across several related areas and disciplines, including: traffic engineering, intelligent transport systems, environmental impact assessment, development planning, and transport infrastructure design.
Whilst candidates will bring their own interests and expertise to the Job, they will need to complement the growing skills and confidence of the team leaders who manage specific skill areas. The following is a list of the type of expertise, interests and industry knowledge that is being sought:
A strong technical expertise in transport model application for appraisal; A confident and proven ability to prepare and present proposals for new work; A mature knowledge of the issues and personalities working on both the client and consultant side of transport planning in the south east of England; A sympathetic interest in mentoring and supporting professional staff development; Experience in the recruitment and retention of well motivated staff from a variety of numerate backgrounds; Ability to contribute to the corporate quality and business management systems; and A reputation for a specific speciality, with the ability to attract new commissions associated with that speciality.
Economic appraisal in general, and the use of newer network modelling tools with the TUBA software, in particularly; The application of the NATA, multi-criteria frameworks, and similar regional funding allocation methodologies; The application of business case methodologies, for example DfT and TfL Business Case submissions; Application of transport modelling software to highway, public transport and multi-modal networks; Assessment of the transport implications of Local Development Frameworks; development control issues and spatial planning Working with related disciples such as urban designers, socio economic and demographic forecasters, environmental analysts, social and market researchers, financial analysts, and transport systems designers and; Road user charging and demand management impact assessment
It is expected that the candidate will have specific expertise in more than one of the above areas.
