Our Spatial Strategy & Research Group is looking for an experienced policy planner with an understanding of the development agenda, to lead sub-regional planning projects and manage a team of professional staff. With a degree in town planning and eligible for RTPI membership, you'll be a self-motivated team player, with excellent analytical, decision-making and communication skills.

Job purpose To lead a range of strategic planning projects and manage a team of staff. Essential qualifications • Degree in town planning and eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute Desirable Qualifications N/A Essential knowledge, skills & experience • Experience of identifying strategic planning issues and policy options • A deep understanding of the English town planning system. • Understanding of the economic growth and development agenda and the ability to integrate this with conservation and environmental protection. • Ability to make presentations to meetings and provide evidence at public inquiries. • Potential to successfully manage projects and staff. • Influencing and decision making skills and the ability to manage the job • Analysis and problem solving and ability to work in a logical manner. • Good communication skills, oral and written including ability to communicate appropriately to technical and non-technical audiences. • Ability to devise innovative approaches to the resolution of complex issues/problems. • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. • Ability to meet the travel requirements of the role. • Commitment to the job and ability to work additional hours when necessary. Desirable knowledge, skills & experience • Ability to work as part of a team and actively contribute to wider management tasks. • Experience of managing staff in a relevant role. • Previous experience of project management. • Practical experience of sub-regional policy preparation, monitoring and implementation. • Knowledge of contemporary strategic planning issues, opinions and philosophies. • Political Sensitivity.
